Topic/Skill: American education system and choosing a major in college

Feedback provided to tutee: Feedback was provided to the tutee after she finished preparing the sentences and speaking. Most of the lesson was smaller comprehension checks.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: Paola and I talked about the difference between public, charter, and private schools. We compared them to her country and discussed higher education as well. We then talked about the benefits and the difference between AP, AICE, CLEP, IB, and DE courses. I also showed her the FSU academic map which was very helpful.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
