Topic/Skill: Handling issues at restaurants, customizing order, food culture (i.e. tipping)

Feedback provided to tutee: Most of the lesson was comprehension checks. Paola picked up the information quickly. I provided feedback on definitions and explanations after she spoke.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: Paola and I talked about the aforementioned. I duplicated the PowerPoint I made for a previous lesson plan and updated it to be more advanced

 Date/Time: Tuesday 11/26 12-1 Location: Starbucks  Topic/skill: Sentence structure and correct verb forms Lesson about tutoring/tutee learned: I am tutoring Maher, but his friend Meshaal also came, and they are at a very different level. So I learned to go back and forth between teaching them different things. This was difficult, but also helpful in that Maher, who is at a higher level, was able to explain things to Meeshal, since both of them speak Arabic.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
