Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.
Date/Time: Wednesday, February 17 at 5 pm Location: ZOOM Topics discussed: We discussed what he did for his birthday, popular cuisine/fruit/juice in America/Cuba/Saudi Arabia, slavery Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Hossam and I spoke about the aforementioned and spoke in-depth about slavery. Date/Time: February 3rd, 10:30 am Topic/Skill: Speaking with Olivia James Classroom Management: It was a small class (2 students or so) so they worked together the whole time. Materials: Pronunciation flashcards, textbook, whiteboard Feedback Provided: The focus of the lesson was pronunciation. She used flashcards and a textbook as material for the students to read. She corrected their pronunciation after their mistakes. Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: I learned that using clear speech and enunciating is important when teaching beginners. Using repetition is really crucial as well so the students practice pronouncing various times.
