Topic/Skill: University vocabulary, Florida State campus and resources

Feedback provided to tutee: I corrected her grammar every now and then and tried to nudge her to work on her answers. For example, when she was describing GPA she couldn't explain the average part. I would describe it in different ways instead of giving the answer.

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: Paola and I revisited the vocabulary from last week. We also learned new vocabulary by discussing FSU's campus. I used an online map to show her dining locations, dorms, buildings, popular areas, etc. I also talked to her about getting around Tallahassee and common student hangout spots. We revisited her writing from last time and decided to continue writing more next time.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
