Topic: TOEFL speaking agree/disagree questions 

Thing learned: I learned that it is important for me to speak clearly to my tutees. Often, I speak very fast and use the word like a lot. I need to be much clearer in my speech so that I can be a good example to them. I think modeling speech is really important to improve their accuracy. I also noticed that Maher knows the grammar very well, and he seems to grasp English, but speaking and listening quickly are difficult for him. I think I want to work on more open ended speaking questions in the future so that he has to think and answer quickly. I also saw that it it is hard for him to develop ideas and speak them quickly.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
