Paola Bruzual
Topics: Critical incidents, reiteration (further discussion)
Cultural/linguistic topics: for our previous conversation, we talked about how teachers differentiate in Venezuela and the United States. I wanted to continue our conversation by leaning towards communication patterns in Venezuela. Paola shared a story of when she was in Panama for vacation. The Panamanian restaurant she went to considered it rude when she inquired a pitillos (straw in Venezuelan Spanish). Pitillos, in Panama, refers to a serious cuss word. Paola was not familiar with this, and felt quite embarrassed.
We talked about the importance of doing research before immersing into a different country. Learning about the cultural patterns from another country is crucial to help you fit in. Great conversation this evening! Super amazing learning about Paola!
