Date/Time: Monday 2/15
Location: Zoom
Topic/Skill: Korean v.s. American schools and life for Korean-Americans (listening and reading)
Feedback provided to tutee: Explanations of new vocabulary or cultural beliefs and pronunciation corrections
Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: I learned that some words, particularly ones of foreign origins, may be pronounced different in English compared to the tutee's own language even if the word and spelling are exactly the same (e.g. "sriracha") so it may be important to explain the American pronunciation so that the listener is able to understand what the speaker is saying as the pronunciation is something indecipherable. My tutee also shared some of her perspectives of American culture and the American public school system based on Korean beliefs while I was able to clarify some things and answer her specific questions.
