Topic/Skill: Introduction and reviewing "getting started-tutoring guidelines"

Feedback provided to tutee: Most of the feedback I provided was when Jairo asked for it. I would repeat back what I understood and word it differently to gauge his understanding. 

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee learned: I explained what we were going to do in Spanish and Jairo and I completed the tutoring guidelines. I learned a lot about the tuttee's culture (from Costa Rica), as well as his thoughts on the English language and American culture. We went over personal adjectives to clear up a doubt he had from a class example. We decided we would pair our sessions with the content covered in class. For example, he is learning how to have basic conversations and vocabulary about family. We will do activities based on this.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
