Topic/Skill: Using "to be" to describe animals

Feedback provided to tutee: Because Je-ah is a beginner student, I try to correct her by repeating what she says with the forgotten verb and writing the sentences as we speak. In this lesson we tried to use "are" as a verb to describe animals (e.g., They are slow.)

Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned: Zoom whiteboard was a useful function, but I forgot to save a picture of the work we completed today. Next time I will have to remember to take a screenshot because it does not auto save. I think I lowered her affective filter with my bad drawings of the animals we talked about. She was excited to draw, and her animals were so cute! I think I will try to incorporate more artistic activities in the future.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
