Topic/Skill: Grammar (Present Continuous tense and Simple past tense) 

Teacher Presentation: Used Zoom Wipeboard after the Pictionary game to cover the purpose of the game, spoke and typed out the sentences as she spoke. Explained present continuous tense.

Classroom Management: Inductive approach to learning. The students would participate in an activity, then come together as a group and present their ideas, and correct the teacher would correct the grammar. 

Materials: Zoom Wipeboard

Student Participation: Classroom game of Pictionary; pair work

Feedback Provided: Encouraged them to repeat their statement in complete sentences, grammar error correction. 

Lesson(s) on teaching you learned: Something that worked for the adult students was correcting their errors by asking if there was a different word with the same meaning. For example, someone used the incorrect verb for a sentence (making) so the teacher asked, “Is there a different word for making” and the student was able to say “doing.” 

Zoom Wipeboard was a convenient means of allowing the virtual and in person students have a combined platform for learning. 

Learned about other student’s cultures through an activity using the simple past tense.

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
