Date/time: Tuesday 01/19. 2:00pm-2:50pm

Topic/Skill: listening skills. Listening to a lecture about marketing research. Note taking +comprehension. 

Classroom Management: Mostly listening was involved in this class. Students had to listen carefully to the lecture at hand. 

Materials: CIES Lecture ready Textbook. Video lecture (seperate source).

Student Participation: Student-teacher conversations via question and answers.

Feedback Provided: Professor Kim would repeat words in order to solidify an understanding. She would also re-word some sentences if students were confused. Went through some vocab words to prepare for the lecture.  

Lessons I learned: I learned that conducting a reading lesson is much easier than conducting a listening lesson. I also learned that one of my tutees are more advanced than I thought!

  Date/Time: Monday 1/25 Location: Zoom Topic/Skill: Reading & Poetry part II Feedback provided to tutee: Pronunciation corrections, new vocabulary, and explanations for poems when misunderstood Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:  Some of the poems I picked ended up being inappropriate because they used Old English or were at a lower reading level than my tutee's so I am learning more about finding level-appropriate materials. It seems EFL/ESL students tend to be very good at listening and reading but struggle with writing and speaking so I will try to find more activities that focus on developing those skills.

 Date/Time: Wednesday 1/20 1:00-1:50 Topic/Skill: Speaking Teacher presentation: Asking questions out of an activity book Classroom management: A lot of error correction on pronunciation and repetition of questions Materials: pdf textbook provided by instructor Student Participation: Took turns answering questions about themselves Feedback provided: corrected pronunciation and vocabulary mistakes Lessons on teaching you learned: I learned that sometimes you have to get creative when asking questions of students. This can include hand motions, repetition, rephrasing, and other means to make your questions clear and understandable. I also loved that this instructor was having fun while teaching!
